Abortion is many, many things.

It is painful.

It is cruel.

It is a tragedy.

It is the source of harm for countless women, men, and families.

It is the cause of death for millions of innocent children.

More specifically, though, if you want to hear true, accurate descriptions of abortion from those who have been there – women who’ve experienced abortions and abortion doctors and clinic workers – you should follow the Expose Abortion project.  (There are other descriptions of abortion here that are worth reading, for those who want very detailed information.)

I’ve written a whole article about the Expose Abortion project for Live Action.  You can read it here.  This project exposes abortion by revealing truth from the inside.  Below are just a few of the project’s quotes, most from abortion doctors and clinic workers:

I was helping the doctor hold the baby [to keep it in the birth canal]. The other nurse got the instrument [a large syringe with a large needle], handed it to the doctor, and he inserted it into the base of the skull. Then he pulled the baby out. Its little hands were grasping. When the baby quit grasping, then he delivered it. He used the syringe to suction out the brains.

It [abortion] goes against all things which are natural. It’s a termination of a life, however you look at it.

– Robert Harris, abortionist, From author Magda Denes, PhD. “In Necessity and Sorrow: Life and Death Inside an Abortion Hospital”.

And typically when the abortion procedure is started we typically know that the fetus is still alive because either we can feel it move as we’re making our initial grasps or if we’re using some ultrasound visualization when we actually see a heartbeat as we’re starting the procedure.

You can see a miniature person… as a physician… I am destroying life.

– abortionist Benjamin Kalish, MD

Question: Can the heart of a fetus or embryo still be beating during a suction curettage abortion as the fetus or embryo comes down the cannula?
Answer: For a few seconds to a minute, yes.

I was finally able to remove the head and look squarely into the face of a human being…a human I had just killed.

– abortionist Paul Jarrett, MD

I have taken the lives of innocent babies and I have ripped them from their mother’s wombs with a powerful suction machine.

Here are 10 Reasons Not to Choose Abortion, an article for men involved in abortion decisions, and one for women who feel pressured to choose abortions.

This is terribly biased. In order to expose what abortion truly is, it is very important to see it from the side of a woman that has been raped or forced to carry. Not just an abortionist view. There is no child killed during an abortion, it is a fetus. (It’s also important to note that nearly 42% of pregnancies end before the second trimester, when most abortions take place.) Terribly biased language!

    • I’m not sure how you can say that the statements of people who have actually DONE abortions are “terribly biased.” They are describing procedures they themselves have done. If you’ve done an abortion yourself, perhaps you could give your own description. Otherwise, I’m pretty sure someone who has actually done an abortion knows what they have done and seen.

If a fetus isn’t a child, what is it? That’s similar to saying an adolescent isn’t a child or a teen or a senior citizen isn’t an elderly person. The terms we use to describe human beings at different levels of development don’t make them any less human. Incidentally, “fetus” means “little one” in Latin – i.e., child.

Yes, you are right that a very large percentage of abortions happen before the second trimester is over. However, the quotes from the abortion doctors and clinic workers above include quotes about abortion procedures in the 1st and 2nd trimesters. Take a look at the last three quotes. They are talking about suction abortion (also known as D&C’s, and commonly used in the 1st trimester) and D&E’s, commonly used in the 2nd tri.

Finally, I agree that we have to also take the side of women who have been raped. But abortion doesn’t cure rape, and it executes an innocent child for the crimes of her father. Killing a child doesn’t heal a woman…it adds another horrible memory and experience on top of rape. Here are a few excellent articles that discuss this issue in more depth. I hope you find them helpful: http://liveactionnews.org/what-about-rape-caring-responses-to-a-hard-question/, http://liveactionnews.org/raped-women-who-had-their-babies-defy-pro-choice-stereotypes/, http://liveactionnews.org/the-rape-exception-the-pain-of-abortion-after-rape/, and http://liveactionnews.org/when-does-the-rape-exception-end/.

Abortion as a result of rape simply compounds tragedy, and the murder of a child does not erase the rape that occured. It makes things far worse for the exploited mother who suffered rape and then the lies of the abortion industry, things which last forever in her life. You can decieve yourself and outright ignore science, but everything known to modern medicine shows the incontravertable truth that a “fetus” is indeed a human being by every definition. Furthermore, Planned Parenthood’s own statistics show that rape is the cited reason for less than 1% of abortions. Thus it is hardly the main reason you and other pro-abort fanatics claim it is. So keep druming lies and self-deceits Yogaitress and then have the audacity to accuse others of bias. You and those like you will one day be remembered with the same brutal selfishness and unspeakable cruelty as the nazis and slave owners because of your oppression of human rights. You are comparable. Look at science, look at the physics surrounding what abortion is and what it does to women and babies alike, then look at history and what side of it you want to stand on and be remembered for.

      • Yogaitress says:

Both of you have a right to your opinion just as I have a right to mine. I did not accuse others of bias. I stated the article has terribly biased language, just to clarify. I will be remembered as a woman who has traveled the world helping those in need. Including hundreds of children that are left defenseless because they were born into inhumane conditions. Many spend their time defending their pro-choice opinions; how many of you are spending your time helping the helpless children you so righteous fought to bring into this world???

      • I think it’s a big misconception out there that pro-lifers don’t help needy born children. Many pro-lifers have a heart to help these children, too, and spend time and/or money doing just that. I’m so glad you travel and help those in need! More people should be doing that. We just believe that the unborn should not be forgotten either. Their lives are being taken, and they must be saved. They are also children in need, and we want to do what we can to help them. As a side note, many pregnancy resource centers continue to help mothers after their babies are born because they do care about born people in need, too. Some of them offer educational programs for teens, college students, or new parents. They tend to do much more than simply help convince a mom to give life to her baby…

Do you believe in genetics? Do you believe the government should force rapist genes to continue in the gene pool, just because you have a radical belief that a fetus is equal to a child?

I believe in a future with all wanted children. I believe in a future where women are not forced to die because the government outlaws abortions.

      • Wow, well I have to say that you’ve expressed a very cruel view of children who don’t choose how they are conceived or who their parents are. The child whose father is a rapist also has her mother’s genes – a fact you’ve obviously forgotten. Not to mention: we are NOT our parents. We are unique individuals, with an equal right to life, no matter the circumstances of our conception.

The view you’ve expressed is eugenics: a dangerous philosophy that some people deserve to live and others don’t. Eugenics was used by the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger. She used it against Blacks and poor people. You, apparently, want to use it against the children of criminals. Every child, every person, is equally deserving of life.

Also, it’s no more radical to believe a fetus is a child than to believe an adolescent is a child or an elderly person is an adult. All of these are mere stages of human development. Each of us goes through them, and we are equally human throughout. Check out these textbook quotes about when a unique human being begins his or her life: http://www.princeton.edu/~prolife/articles/embryoquotes2.html.

I have seen it from that side. A very close of friend of mine had been raped as a teen. She decided to carry the baby to term and go through delivery. Ultimately, the child was given up for adoption. It was an emotionally challenging time in her vulnerable, young life. Yet – she was decidedly against abortion and bore the criticism of many – who to this day do not know she was raped. They assumed it was consensual as the offender was in his late 20s. By the way, fetus is a Latin term for offspring or little one. You say “there is no child killed during an abortion, it is a fetus.” However, these fetuses already have their own unique fingerprint and retinas. No other human being past or future will ever hold. Nothing short of miraculous.
